What Tools Do I Need To Remove Epoxy?

What Tools Do I Need To Remove Epoxy?

There are times when you may need to remove epoxy from your floor. No matter why you want to remove the epoxy, there are some tools and supplies you will need to make it happen. Depending on the scope of the project, you may want to consider hiring a professional to get the job done.

There are two different ways you can go about removal, and which one you choose will depend on what tools you have available and your level of skill.

Style One Removal Tools:

  • Acetone, or Epoxy Remover
  • Garden Hose
  • Rags
  • Stiff Scraper, Preferably Metal

Style Two Removal Tools:

Prepping The Area

No matter which style you use for removal from your floor, the same type of prep needs to be done. First, remove furniture or any other items from the area. Use tape and plastic to protect the walls just in case any acetone splashes up. If you are using a floor grinder, be sure to block off any doors that are attached to other rooms, so that dust does not permeate everything.

How To Remove The Epoxy:

Removal Style One:

With the first removal style, you use scrapers and a lot of elbow grease to remove the epoxy. Here are the steps:

  1. Use scrapers to remove as much of the epoxy by hand as possible.
  2. Pour the solvent, and then continue scraping to get it loose.
  3. Use a hose to clean the acetone off the floor.
  4. Wipe up the area as needed with the rags.

Removal Style Two:

With removal style two, you use a commercial grade floor grinder to grind the epoxy off.

  1. Use the floor grinder to remove as much of the epoxy as possible.
  2. Vacuum the area.
  3. Pour the acetone on the area.
  4. Use your scraper to loosen any remaining epoxy.
  5. Hose the area off.
  6. Wipe up the area as needed with the rags.

With all of these tips and tricks, epoxy removal should be a breeze for the most experienced contractors or even the first time DIYers. If you have any questions about this article or any of the products we sell, feel free to reach out to one of our specialists at (954)-799-6359.
